Overview

Sanford Hospital Luverne (SHL) is a 25-bed critical access hospital that provides inpatient, acute, long term care, and a broad scope of outpatient services. The mission of Sanford Hospital Luverne is "Dedicated to the work of healing."

Luverne Community Hospital (LCH) was founded in July 1945. Three major expansion/renovations were completed in 1956, 1963, and 1991. On May 1, 2000 LCH became the first fully owned facility of Sioux Valley Regional Health Services (SVRHS) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In July 2005, a new hospital and clinic facility, Sioux Valley Luverne Medical Center, opened its doors.

In February, 2007, renown philanthropist T. Denny Sanford donated $400 million to the Sioux Valley Health System to expand the Sioux Falls, SD, healthcare campus, including the construction of a children's hospital and medical research center, and five pediatric healthcare clinics across the nation. The Sioux Valley Health System was renamed, "Sanford Health."

Sioux Valley Luverne Hospital became "Sanford Hospital Luverne." The hospital is a certified Medicare and Medical Assistance provider and is fully licensed by the Minnesota Department of Health to provide acute, transitional, and swing bed services as a critical access hospital.

The hospital currently employs approximately 200 employees. Nine family physicians and a full-time surgeon from Sanford Clinic Luverne, provide healthcare to individuals of all ages.

Several specialty physicians provide outreach clinics at Sanford Hospital Luverne on a twice-monthly or monthly basis.
